1. Call to Order: Call to order by Vice-President John Spencer at 1:03 pm.

2.  Member Attendance and Guest Introduction: There were 17 members present this month, 15 in person and 2 online. One member from Fort Lauderdale Orchid Society joined online. Welcome everyone, to the February meeting!

3. Treasurer’s Report: Barbara Alexander reported there is a total of $48,350.54 in the OOS accounts for January, 2026. Members may view details on the OOS website of each month’s financial statements. Additionally, In Catherine Chance’s absence, Doug Needham reported that Catherine had updated the November 1 – December 31, 2025 Treasurer’s Report to include interest earned in December 2025. The update is posted on the website. The report was unanimously approved by members.

4. Approval of Minutes: The January 2026 minutes were unanimously approved by members.

5. Committee Chair Reports:

  • Membership – Kaden Milbern, Chair: No report this month.
  • Programming – John Spencer, Chair: No report this month
  • Conservation– Mike Friday, Chair: No report.
  • Website – Doug Needham, Chair: Doug Needham informed members that his top three criteria for the website are security, stability, and accessibility and he asks members to notify him as soon as possible whenever they encounter an issue with the website. He noted that earlier this year some members were not able to access their membership information and that a recent WordPress update appears to have resolved the issue.

6. Affiliate Reports:

  • Great Plains Judging Center – Catherine Chance and Jana Butcher: No report this month
  • AOS Representative – Gerry Holland: No report this month.
  • SWROGA – Jana Butcher, Bill Parker and Catherine Chance: Jana Butcher reported this year’s SWROGA show will be the Tulsa Orchid Society Show, held the weekend of May 9th, 2026. If you are interested in participating in the show, sending orchids for judging, or helping set up the OOS exhibit please contact Jana Butcher.
  • Orchid Digest Representative – Bill Parker: No report.
  • Oklahoma City Council of Garden Clubs – Jana Butcher: Jana Butcher informed members the Oklahoma Garden Club Annual Convention will be March 26 – 27 at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Oklahoma City Airport. Jana Butcher so kindly donated volunteer hours to OOS the past month by giving two presentations, each drawing a good crowd. Thank you for your time and expertise, Jana!

7. Old Business:

  • John Spencer informed members that Will Rogers Gardens Center preferred the 85″ flat panel TV, thus one was ordered and is scheduled for delivery on March 3 along with a full-motion mount. OKC Parks Department personnel will move the existing 65″ TV and mount to the small meeting room and install the new mount and 85″ TV in the large meeting room, where OOS meets. Thank. you to everyone for making this donation possible!

8. New Business:

  • Dr. Mike Friday was presented the Orchid Digest Diamond Award of Excellence for his long term dedication and his many contributions to the Oklahoma Orchid Society. Congratulations!
  • President Mike Friday brought up question as to whether OOS is contributing to SWROGA conservation efforts, something the Society has done in the past. After discussion, a motion was made by Jana Butcher for OOS to donate $100.00 to SWROGA conservation for 2026. Bridget Andoe seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously passed.

10. Program/Presentation – – John Spencer introduced this month’s speaker, Mary Gerritsen from AOS presenting the “Orchids of Madagascar”. Thank you for the beautiful presentation!

11. Show and Tell Table – There were several members who brought in beautiful orchids to share today. Thank you to those who showed their plants and described their culture.

12. Auction and Raffle – Barbara Alexander drew raffle tickets for chances to win plants donated by OOS members. Thank you to everyone who brought a plant or other items for the raffle!
