1. Call to Order: Call to order by Vice-President John Spencer at 1:07 pm.

2.  Member Attendance and Guest Introduction: Number of members present this month totaled 26. Welcome everyone, to the new year!

3. Treasurer’s Report: Barbara Alexander reported there is a total of $47,826.21 in the OOS accounts for December 2025. Members may view details on the OOS website of each month’s financial statements. The report was unanimously approved by members.

4. Approval of Minutes: A motion to accept the November 2025 meeting minutes was made by Doug Needham and seconded by Catherine Chance. The November 2025 minutes were unanimously approved by members.

5. Committee Chair Reports:

  • Membership – Kaden Milbern, Chair: No report this month.
  • Programming – John Spencer, Chair: John Spencer and Mike Friday stated there are several speakers lined up for this year for members to look forward to hearing.
  • Conservation– Mike Friday, Chair: No report.
  • Website – Doug Needham, Chair: No report.

  • Great Plains Judging Center – Catherine Chance and Jana Butcher:
  • AOS Representative – Gerry Holland: Gerry Holland showed member Catherine Chance’s AOS awarded orchid image published in the December 2025 issue of the AOS journal. Congratulations Catherine!
  • SWROGA – Jana Butcher, Bill Parker and Catherine Chance: No report this month.
  • Orchid Digest Representative – Bill Parker: Bill Parker showed the Cattleya booklet that accompanies the latest issue of Orchid Digest. On the back of the booklet is an advertisement for a “George and Matilda Adventure” orchid rich mystery book. Proceeds of book purchases go to Orchid Digest.
  • Oklahoma City Council of Garden Clubs – Jana Butcher: Jana Butcher informed OOS members that 130 volunteer hours were earned by OOS members during the annual Christmas light set up and take down events. Thank you to all who volunteered their time! Two volunteer opportunities will be offered in the coming months, Easter on the Green and an OOS led repotting seminar to be held June 27th, 2026. Please consider volunteering for either or both events.

7. Old Business:

  • Data was gathered and presented by Doug Needham in favor of a larger 100 inch digital flat screen television (TV) to replace the current 65 inch in the OOS meeting room. The larger, 100 inch TV, will allow all members throughout the room to clearly see fonts and images on slides during presentations. Three options were presented with prices beginning at $1900.00. The mid-range, $3000.00, Hisense brand television meets the four criteria outlined in the presentation at a reasonable price. Following discussion concerning responsibility for installation and funds to use for purchase, a motion was made by Doug Needham and seconded by Trudy Dintzner to spend up to $4000.00 for the purchase and installation of a 100 inch digital flat screen television. The motion was unanimously approved by members. To facilitate the flat screen TV selection and purchase, a committee was formed consisting of Doug Needham, John Spencer and Kaden Milbern.

8. New Business:

  • It was proposed by Jana Butcher that Bill Parker receive a lifetime membership on behalf of the Oklahoma Orchid Society for the considerable contributions to the Society throughout the years. Jana Butcher motioned to approve the lifetime membership for Bill Parker and Marinel Kelley seconded. Members unequivocally approved the motion.

9. Adjourn Business Meeting at 1:48 pm.

10. Program/Presentation – – John Spencer introduced this month’s speaker, John Hammond, Ph.D., who gave an informative talk regarding viruses titled “Viruses in Orchids – Symptoms, Spread and Sanitation”. Thank you for the enlightening discussion!

11. Show and Tell Table – There were several members who brought in beautiful orchids to share today. Thank you to those who showed their plants and described their culture.

12. Auction and Raffle – Catherine Chance held the raffle of plants donated by OOS members. Thank you to everyone who brought a plant or other items for the raffle!
