1. Call to Order: Call to order by President Mike Friday at 1:00 pm.

2.  Member Attendance and Guest Introduction: Number present: 24 members in total, one new member welcomed this month. Two guests were in attendance.

3. Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Catherine Chance reported a total of $40,414.38 total monies for the end-of-month May, 2025.

4. Approval of Minutes: Approval of April 2025 minutes unanimously approved by members

5. Committee Chair Reports:

  • Membership – Doug Needham, Interim chair: Doug Needham reported eleven new members joined the Society since the OOS Show and Sale and welcomed those new members who attended for the first time this meeting. With the new members, OOS currently has 25 individual, 18 family household and 6 honorary lifetime members for a total of 70 Society members.
  • Programming – John Spencer, Chair: Mike Friday and John Spencer wanting to offer chance for OOS members to attend a Great Plains Judging event one Saturday and will be reporting progress to members at a later date.
  • Show & Sale – Jana Butcher, Bridget Andoe and Marinel Kelley, co-Chairs: Bridget Andoe reported 550 guests attended the OOS 75th Anniversary Show and Sale this May. Bridget shared with the members that the OOS exhibit received the AOS trophy and Orchid Digest trophy for Best Exhibit in the show. OOS members as well as the Girl Scout troop also won awards at this years show. Congratulations to all of the winners! Thank you to all who entered orchids and/or other items this year! A special thank you to all of the volunteers who always make the OOS Orchid Show and Sale an all around success!
  • Investment – Jana Butcher, Chair: No report this month.
  • Conservation– Mike Friday, Chair: Mike Friday stated the native Sporanthes are growing well in his area and expected to bloom in August.
  • Website – Doug Needham, Chair: Doug Needham asked members to visit the OOS website at okorchidsociey.org in preparation for a discussion of any changes members wish to see as the site moves forward.

6. Affiliate Reports:

  • Great Plains Judging Center – Catherine Chance and Jana Butcher: No report this month.
  • AOS Representative – Gerry Holland:  Gerry Holland brought the recent issue of the AOS magazine and suggested a great article, by Sue Bottom, highlighting various orchid diseases and treatments.
  • SWROGA – Jana Butcher, Bill Parker and Catherine Chance: no report this month.
  • Orchid Digest Representative – Bill Parker: No changes to report.
  • Oklahoma City Council of Garden Clubs – Jana Butcher: No Garden Council report this month.

  • Marinel Kelley made a motion for OOS to donate $500.00 to the long time member, Burrel Gambel, memorial scholarship fund. The motion was seconded by Carol Ash and approved by unanimous vote.

10. Program/Presentation – The June presentation was the annual hands on repotting of orchids event held each June after the annual OOS show and sale.

11. Show and Tell Table – Members brought many beautiful orchids to today’s meeting. Thank you to those who showed their plants and described their culture.

12. Auction and Raffle – Catherine Chance led the raffle of plants donated by OOS members. Thank you to everyone who brought a plant for the raffle!
