1. Call to Order: Call to order by Vice-President John Spencer at 1:03 pm.

2.  Member Attendance and Guest Introduction: Number of members present: 28 members total, 26 in-person and 2 online. Welcome all to this month’s meeting!

3. Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Catherine Chance reported a total of $43,274.09 total monies in all accounts for the end-of-month September 2025. A motion to approve the Treasurer’s report was made by Bridget Andoe and seconded by Doug Needham. The report was unanimously approved by members.

4. Approval of Minutes: A motion to accept the September 2025 meeting minutes was made by Marinel Kelley and seconded by Bridget Andoe. The September 2025 minutes were unanimously approved by members.

5. Committee Chair Reports:

  • Membership – Kaden Milbern, Chair: No report for October meeting
  • Programming – John Spencer, Chair: John Spencer let all members know the November meeting will be held at Will Rogers Gardens on November 16th at 1:00pm. The 2026 slate of officers will be presented and confirmed during the November meeting. December 6th, 1:00pm – 4:00pm, is the annual “Christmas Extravaganza” at Johnita _______ beautiful home. Thank you for hosting the OOS holiday party, Johnita! Both John and Mike Friday reminded members of the upcoming volunteer opportunities during the holidays. Halloween on the Green, decorating the christmas tree in the building foyer, stringing Christmas lights through the trees and more events are scheduled for the coming months. Each volunteer hour offsets rental dollars OOS pays for building use. Thank you to all volunteers!

  • Website – Doug Needham, Chair: No report.

6. Affiliate Reports:

  • Great Plains Judging Center – Catherine Chance and Jana Butcher: Catherine Chance reported that judging was held three plants were judged with one, a very small microscopic orchid, receiving an award.
  • AOS Representative – Gerry Holland:  No report
  • SWROGA – Jana Butcher, Bill Parker and Catherine Chance: ana Butcher and Catherine Chance also judged several orchids at the Greater North Texas Orchid Society Fall Show and Sale in October. Twenty orchids were judged and two orchids selected for awards.
  • Orchid Digest Representative – Bill Parker: Bill Parker brought the latest Orchid Digest issue and AOS journal with supplements specific for paphiopedilum and phragmipediums.
  • Oklahoma City Council of Garden Clubs – Jana Butcher: No report.

  • The primary focus of November’s meeting will be to vote on the officers for 2026. Members will meet in person to vote on the nominees. The slate of 2026 OOS candidates is as follows:

    • Secretary: Kim Kyker
    • Treasurer: Barbara Alexander

10. Program/Presentation – John Spencer introduced this month’s speaker, Dr. John Royer, entomology expert from Oklahoma State University, retired. Dr. Royer gave a very informative presentation titled “Keep Your Orchids Off the Scales Through Mealybug Management”. Thank you so much, Dr. Royer for the illuminating talk and discussion!

11. Show and Tell Table – The most beautiful orchids were brought in by members to share during today’s meeting. Thank you to those who showed their plants and described their culture.

12. Auction and Raffle – Catherine Chance led an amazing raffle of plants donated by OOS members. Thank you to everyone who brought a plant or other items for the raffle!
