Mission
The Society achieved its mission “to educate and foster the appreciation of orchids and their culture” through its meetings, events, volunteerism, and donations. Thanks to our donors, trustees, and members, the Society accomplished all of its strategic goals for 2022!
Major Accomplishments
- Secured 501(c)(3) status for the Society and Registered Charity status in the State of Oklahoma.
- Formalized the Society’s financial accounting and provided transparent Treasurer’s Reports.
- Communicated with a unified voice through our Business Meetings and Minutes.
Membership Accomplishments
- Grew our membership from 54 to 76 active members — a 41% increase!
- Annualized our membership, so members receive a full 12-months’ membership.
- Added value to membership via members-only web content.
- Members contributed >100 volunteer hours at Will Rogers Gardens, including teaching two public classes on orchids, engaging youth at “Halloween on the Green,” and installing and removing Christmas lights.
- Three members became AOS Student Judges.
- Four members were awarded 14 AOS awards, and many members won numerous show ribbons and trophies.
Major Contributions
Thanks to unrestricted donations in memory of Dr. John M. Salmeron, unrestricted donations in support of OOS’s Show & Sale, and a restricted donation from Red River Orchid Society to establish a scholarship for university horticulture students, the Society received $7,258.42 in major contributions. Thank you, generous contributors!
Impact
Income from fundraising, investments, and membership dues, enabled the Society to achieve its mission through program services and contributions to other organizations.
- Contributed financially to Great Plains Judging Center, and donated orchid leis to Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Event in OKC.
- Provided eight presentations by speakers from across the U.S.
- Engaged place-bound and out-of-state members in monthly meetings via Zoom.
- Toured newly restored and re-imagined Crystal Bridge Conservatory with Myriad Gardens Director of Horticulture.
- Purchased quantum light meter for members’ use.
- Conducted a very successful one-day Show & Sale, engaging 410 public attendees.
- Exhibited and won awards at three other societies’ shows.
- Achieved 88,400 impressions and 1,920 click-throughs via the Society’s website okOrchidSociety.org.
