I Call to Order by Jana Butcher

II Introduction of Guests and New Members – guests Connie McCabe and Vicki Hallock from Ft. Lauderdale Orchid Society.

III Approval of Minutes from last meeting – minutes approved for February’s meeting.

IV Treasurer’s Report

A. Allen Koch presented assets and funds as of 11/30/2020 and 12/31/2020 $21,314.09 sent by email. Today he presented as of February 28, 2021 assets and funds were $20,915.26.

V Old Business

A. Allen has paid the Slipper Orchid Journal dues and will resend the link to the journal information to all members.

B. Jana will send Allen the list of needed funds to transfer money from the Money Market fund to the checking account for bill payments or anticipated fund needs.

C. Again, dues are needed from previous members and Allen presented a list of paid and unpaid members. Jana will call the unpaid list to be sure they want to remain as members. If dues are not paid by the end of March, the unpaid members will be removed from the directory as a member.

D. Mike Friday’s class at Will Rogers Gardens Center was a success with 27 people attending.

VI New Business

A. A new trustee will be added in November 2021 per the bylaws. Currently Lowell McCabe and Johnita Turner are the trustees.

B. The OOS has received an invitation to join the Festival in the Park and due to many issues it was decided not to participate this year.

C. Carolyn McCabe purchased 34 six-inch Talavera pots for the trophies for the 2022 show and will be reimbursed.

VII Announcements

A. Jana Butcher read a very nice letter from a woman that attended our repotting class and gave an account of her successful blooming after the class. It was suggested that it again be read at our next live meeting.

B. Our OOS meeting in May will be in-person at the Will Rogers Gardens Center at 1:00 pm. Everyone must wear masks and help setting up would be appreciated prior to the meeting. The Center was not available for the April meeting, so it will again be done via Zoom.

  A. Green Growers Recap -none

  B. Great Plains Judging Center-Carolyn McCabe reported that 22 orchids were judged and 11 were awarded.

  C. AOS Representative- no report

  D. SWROGA

A. Kansas cancelled their orchid show as the venue was being used for Covid vaccinations. There will be a directors meeting which will be posted on the SWROGA website.

B. The Oklahoma Orchid Society show with be the next in-person SWROGA show in October 2021.

  E. Orchid Digest Representative- no report

  F. OK Garden Council (Meets Sept-May)- Meetings still on Zoom and April 9th will be the State Convention. May will be the last meeting of the year.

  G. Conservation – no report

H. Upcoming Shows/Sales-

May 1st sales people needed at 8:00 am to start at 9:00 am to open to the public. Friday April30th, volunteers are needed to set up for show. More help is needed, and Jana will be checking with people for assistance. Members need to bring good plants to sell or auction and if not in bloom provide a picture of the orchid. If anyone needs help with picture of the orchid call Jana Butcher. Donations of potting media, new pots, decorative pots, cardboard boxes, paper and plastic bags are needed. Please have ready on the 30th of April.

Doug Needham gave an update on the October 1st to 3rd , 2021 SWROGA show and said the owner of PaphParadise is coming to the show as a vendor and invited speaker. Doug and Jana are finalizing details for the Show’s itinerary, which will be posted to the Society’s website by April 1. Letters inviting vendors and exhibitors will also be mailed by April 1.

IX Program – Vice President Introduces Topic/Speaker- Carolyn McCabe introduced Dr. Mary Gerritsen who is a well known author and photographer of native orchids. She travels all over the world to find them in their native habitats to photograph and recounted tales of curses and humorous stories obtaining the photographs. It was a delightful and wonderful presentation.

X Show and Tell- Orchids were shown by Jana Butcher, Keith Warren, Doug Needham, Claire Garrett, and Carolyn and Lowell McCabe.
